I’m Fernando Ayala, a California credentialed educator with more than 20 years of experience helping young people become stronger, more confident and curious learners.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, I combine personalized academic support with creative, hands-on learning and educational experiences throughout Southern California.
Whether we’re solving a math problem, designing something with our hands, exploring science outdoors, or discovering something new about the world around us, I believe learning should be meaningful, engaging—and whenever possible, fun.
A Different Kind of Learning
Children learn in different ways.
Some need help strengthening academic skills. Others need more confidence, organization, motivation, or simply a different way of looking at a problem.
And sometimes the best learning happens when we step away from the desk altogether.
My approach combines more than two decades of experience in education with creativity, problem-solving, outdoor exploration, and real-world learning. I meet students where they are and build from there, providing enough guidance to help them move forward while giving them room to think, discover, and become more independent.

Meet Fernando
Growing up in Southern California, some of my favorite childhood memories were family trips to the Sierra Nevada. My brother and I fished, hiked, explored, whittled wood, and learned how to figure things out for ourselves.
Nobody called any of it a lesson.
It was simply how we learned to be curious, resourceful, and engaged with the world around us—and those experiences still shape the way I teach today.
After graduating from Loyola Marymount University, I began my career as a systems engineer before realizing that working with young people was where I truly belonged. I earned my Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and have now spent more than 20 years working with elementary and middle school students as a classroom teacher, interim Assistant Principal, Art and Innovation instructor, TLC Lead Teacher, and private tutor.
As a private tutor and educator, my goal is not simply to help a child complete an assignment or improve a grade. I want students to develop stronger skills while becoming more confident, curious, resourceful, and independent.
Translated into a simple mantra: Work smarter. Play harder. Live aloha.

I believe children learn best when they feel: Supported. Challenged. Curious. Genuinely engaged.
That may mean slowing down and approaching an academic concept differently.
It might mean building, drawing, experimenting, moving, exploring outdoors, or connecting a lesson to something a student already loves.
The goal is not just helping a student find the right answer.
It is helping them become more confident in their ability to figure things out for themselves.
